I am in the market for a gas heater, since I have a salt water generator are there any issues I should be aware about.
Will the salt lead to corrosion in the heat exchanger, is my only option to buy a heater with a stainless steel core at three times the price, or can I get away with just a regular gas heater?

I have a Hayward gas heater with no issues. If you keep your water balanced it won't be a problem.

I agree with Dave. Keep your water balanced and keep a watch on your PH and total alkalinity especially and you should be fine with a copper heat exchanger. I would also recommend having a check valve installed. What that does is when the pump is shut off, no water can back up into the heater.
