I've had to replace spider gasket several times due to user mistakes. I've been using Permatex 6B gasket adhesive to glue down the spider gasket. Is this the best product to use? This time one of the gaskets was "gummy" and I'm not sure why. I'm about to put in a new one and I want to know if this is the best adhesive to use. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I used super glue on mine and it worked out fine.

Hey Hal - Happy 4th:)
See this thread (http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?t=1331) for my take on gluing the spider gasket in;)
Despite what I said in the linked thread, if you are constantly having problems with the gasket becoming unseated, use some adhesive, but go easy on it, eventually you'll end up replacing the gasket and if it's glued in too well, you'll have a heck of a time getting it back out!
I wish you well with this and have a GREAT summer!!

Waste, thanks for the link to that previous thread. I have a veteran pool service owner who has been an invaluable help in this church pool renovation/operation odyssey. He has always told us to glue the gasket with aforementioned Permatex. I like your idea not to use adhesive at all, though I can hear him telling me that it won't work. Your posts mention using lubricant liberally when making the replacement. I've not lubricated any of the spider gaskets I've replaced. Should I lube the gasket's top edge (1/16") or the flat surface that contacts the gasket, or both? Do I need to worry about lube getting into the channels? Thanks.

P.S. We had a great Fourth of July. First lake party I've been to in about 20 years, with a band(disappointing) and lots of barbecue(great). It sure brought back a lot of memories. We had to stop the fireworks show after three of our mortar shells exploded below 75' high, showering hot embers into the spectators. No one badly hurt, just a couple of minor burns, Thank God!

Well, we installed new gaskets in two multiports yesterday, both dry/ no glue. One of them worked and one of them immediately distorted and leaked. Both are shut down right now. I'll go by and play with them this morning. Do you think a multi could become warped? When I've got the most troublesome of the two older ones apart, everything looks good and I tell myself that there's no reason to replace it, but I'm on the verge of ordering a new one....

The one time I had to replace it, I used a lot of gasket lube, not glue. That was two or three seasons ago. So I'm on my second spider in 7 seasons.

Did you lube the bottom of the channel the gasket sits in? Did you lube the hard upper surface that seals against the gasket? I've never lubed any that I've worked on at all. Thanks
