I just bought pool filter sand from my local pool supply store. They had 3 different brands in stock.

One of them, made my speciality resources, in CA is white and black in nature. No where on the bag does it state "#20"... it does have a sylica warning label on it.

All the sand I just took out of the filter was all one color. Is there sylica sand which is white and black... or is this the wrong stuff?

That is probably one of the synthetic sand substitutes, similar to Zeosand, but I'm not sure. Since it came from a pool supplier, it's probably okay to use, but I would either call the number on the package for the manufacturer or double check with another pool store to make sure before you use it.

I don't think it was a substitute. It's only $10 a bag...

Oh, OK. I think it should be fine. I've seen black-flecked sand. The grains and shape look similar despite the color. It's probably just the source quarry or whatever of the sand that dictates its color. Even mason's sand can come in white, yellow, red or black (and probably some other colors, too.)

Confirmed by MFG and Pool Company that it is indeed #20 silica sand. Odd that it wasn't marked as such anywhere.

Thanks

Just curious-why did you remove the "old" sand?
