Hi,

I've begun to de-stain my 16'x32' 27,000 gallon pool. Unfortunately my CL level was very high so the 2 lbs of ascorbic acid I've used have worked, but mainly depleted my chlorine level. The results are very good but I'm still seeing a light brown stain in places. I've followed Marie's directions and am running the pump 24/7 now. Also, I added 12 capfuls of Metal Free.

Since my CL is basically 0 and pH is holding at 6.8, would you recommend adding another pound of ascorbic acid to finish off the stains? I have some algaecide 60 if that's recommended at this point.

Thanks,
Jon

I would definitely add the algaecide now, since you're having to keep your chlorine levels low for the stain treatments--that way you won't have algae to deal with when you get the stains gone. And yes, I would go ahead and finish off the stains, since you're so close to being finished--but I would raise that pH to get it above 7.0 so you don't ruin your liner.

I went ahead and used the algaecide when I thought I saw some "plant life" forming. I also added a half pound of AA and it's looking really good now. I'll start to raise the pH (and then chlorine) once I get it to about 7.2. Thanks for your reply.

Make sure you add enough metal free - I don't think 12 capfuls are enough in 27,000 gallons. If you don't have enough sequestering agent, the metals will start to fall out on the surface of the pool as soon as you raise the chlorine and ph.
