After opening my 18k 6yr old plaster pool, After shocking with Cal Hypo I tested my ph it was above 8 ! The kids noticed the walls and bottom where very rough and sharp.

In a previous year my pool builder suggested I drop my ph down to 6.8 and add a sequestering agent. I lowered my ph to 6.8 and added 2 bags of hydroquest. It's been about 10days and I am noticing a slight improvement in the smoothness of the walls and bottom. Water is a little cloudy. Testing the water today with my PS233 I get the following
FC = 0
CC = 0
TC = 0
PH = 7.2
ALK = 40
CAL = 420
CYA = 30
temp 72

I added 2 gal of bleach to boost TC.

My question is what should I do next ? Keep ALK and PH low to aid in the removal of scale ?

Any advice would be appreciated. I am running out of band-aids

thanks
Ollie

If you see cloudiness and your TC=0 and your CYA= 30, you'll need to get FC to 15, CC to 0, and TC to 15.
You added about 6ppm of chlorine--not enough.

Carl's right, as always--if you don't get some chlorine in there quick, you're going to be fighting more than just calcium deposits, as evidenced by the cloudiness. Also keep in mind that when you're testing for pH, your results are going to be artificially high if your TC is higher than 10 ppm, so I wouldn't treat a high pH unless your chlorine is below 10 and you're sure you have the right number.

Thanks for the advise on the TC levels. What can I do about the cal deposits ? Sides still seem a little rough

thanks

I would keep your TA and pH low, and stop using cal-hypo for chlorinating--switch to bleach.
