I bought a DE filter that was used. It is only 2 seasons old. This is my first with the filter. I just hooked it up and tried it out. My issue i am having is it is leaking at every screw at the top of the filter. I went through and tightened them all up but i still get a leak. Is there supposed to be a gasket somewhere? Are they inside? How can I fix this.

The filter is a Hayward EC40

Here's a link to a parts diagram for your filter: http://www.mypool.com/Help_files/Parts_Diagrams/Hayward-Perflex-EC30.htm

It shows that there's a "diaphragm gasket" labelled part 12. About $28 on the site that I linked above. Sounds like you're missing it or it's failed.

I just opened it up again and saw that gasket. What a pain to have to remove all those screws.

Maxx, lube the bejezus out of the gasket with either silicone or teflon based lube! When you go to tighten the bolts tighten north then south then east then west to put even pressure on the gasket, you can then tighten the rest in any order.

Depending on how old the unit is, you'll need either 2 7/16" wrenches or a 7/16 and a 3/8" wrench. It's easier to put the bolds in from the bottom so that you have better access to the nuts when tightening them:)

Thanks. I will try some pipe dope first before I go get a new gasket.
