I have a Chlormatic lll SWG, Jandy bought the company and it is now marketed as the Aquapure 1400. I'm updating some of the components with the Jandy name and noticed in the manual today that they claim their system will not significantly increase pH and it should stabilize at about 7.8. They suggest that is in the normal operating range for pH in a pool and that correction is not needed unless it exceeds that. Any opinions on this? I've noticed that is the range my pool ends up every week, then I'm adding about a pint to a quart of acid to knock it down to 7.3 or so. It would be nice to leave it at 7.8 and use a lot less acid. Not to mention saving a few pair of jeans that have become "acid washed."

You can operate at a high PH. Ben has a good article on operating a high PH pool:

If you do decide to operate that high, you need to keep an eye on your saturation index to prevent scaling.
