I have been using the BBB method for about 3 years now, and have never had a major problem. I will be leaving town for about a week and have a question about the best way to keep my water clear.

On average my pool consumes about 2ppm of chlorine per day. I add chlorine daily to replace what was lost. If I bring the chlorine level up to 18 to 20 ppm just before leavng town, can I assume that it will continue to use about 2 ppm per day? That would compute to a level of about 3 - 6 ppm upon my return. If so, baring a big storm or other odd occurance, I should be able to avoid an algae bloom.

Any comments or help would be appreciated.

No, unfortunately it doesn't work that way. You'll find that you lose a percentage of chlorine daily. For example, say you add chlorine to 6 ppm and lose 2 ppm during the day.....that's about 1/3 of your total. If you add chlorine to 15, you'll find that you lose approximately 5 during the day...1/3 of the total. Higher CYA levels tend to cut the percentage a little bit, but you can't dose the pool to very high levels and expect the ppm lost daily to remain constant.

Do you have a friend or neighbor that could stop by and add a bottle every couple of days or so?

You could always just put a few slow dissolve pucks in the skimmers and keep the pump running. That should easily handle the needs for the week.
