While buying a pair of Polaris belts at a local pool store, I saw an employee staring at the meter of a water analyzing device. He brought over another worker for a second opinion, then said the customer's Total Dissolved Solids were way too high and asked how long since the guy's pool had been pumped out completely and refilled.
Customer said he'd drained about half the pool a few weeks ago. PS employee told him that his water was going bad and that he might get another 4 or 5 years use before the pool must be pumped completely!!! I could hardly believe my ears! I couldn't help commenting that, "That's crazy! Water doesn't go bad." The guy helping me heard it but didn't comment. I waited outside for the customer a couple of minutes but he was still trapped inside and, when I last saw him, suitably concerned that his pool water is "going bad." Hogwash!
