Hello,

I've purchased a Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 system.

I've read some postings saying that people bought their salt from Home Depot. I saw some Diamond Crystal and Morton brands at Home Depot, in 50 or 40 lb. bags. Using http://www.diamondcrystalsalt.com/Water-Softening/Water-Softening.aspx as a reference, I saw the blue and yellow (pellet) bags in my local Home Depot. The yellow one has some says `up to 99.8% pure' whereas the blue one reads

I'd like to know which brand people use and what the pros/cons are, if any. I've only read that some dissolve slower than others. What other factors should I be aware of?

Thank you.

Solar salt (or any salt with *nothing* added) should work just fine - that's what I use. Solar salt is typically packaged in a blue bag...but read the label.

It's a coarser grind than pool salt, but it's all the same when it's dissolved :).

Last week, pool salt at my local pool store was around $13/40 lb., and solar salt at my local hardware store was around $4.80/40 lb.

I've used both Morton and Diamond Crystal brands of SOLAR SALT (BLUE BAGS) from Home Depot and Lowe's.

Both products dissolved quickly -- and I added 800 pounds over a 2-day period recently.

While the pellets are a bit purer they are slower dissolving than the solar. I use the solar in the blue bags.

The important thing, I gather, is not to use iodized salt.
