Just got back from vacation last night and after 2 1/2 weeks my pool is a bit of a mess.

A friend had been pouring in a jug of bleach every other day, and, while that's worked GREAT in the past, this time it didn't. I suspect the vast amount of rain while we were gone didn't help.

So the Blue Diamond is on its second run, the chlorine is dosed up, and the pump is running full 24/7. I backwashed this morning, added more DE to the filter and dosed up the chlorine again. We'll see where we are tonight.

But I definitely have a bloom.

Yup, I know the drill. After all, I've written it about 100 times! And it's working. Bleach/LC 2-3x/day, filter 24/7. Backwash as needed, vacuum and brush everyday (thank goodness for my Blue Diamond) and lots of POPP.

Even though the water was cloudy tonite my FC was 10 and my CC was .5-1.0. Added another gal of 12.5%...which should take it to 16ppm--just above shock level for my CYA.

It's getting clearer and the process is working. I have POPP, too.

POP? POPP? Sorry, I haven't heard that term yet. Quick definition please? (My guess is POP=Plenty of patience :D but I have no idea what POPP is. POOP = what you said when you got back to find a marsh instead of a pool.)

Chairman Mao was a great adovcate of returning to work the rice paddies once in a while!

Failing that, just paypal $299 to Spensar'smagicalgaegoop@gmail.com and a representative will deliver a magic solution. Please be sure to follow the instructions carefully: it must be used with your filter on and the level of chlorine as per the instructions. If followed, guaranteed to kill the algae!!:D

POPP: Pool Owner Patience and Persistence!

Magic goop--just like instant water: Fill a cup from a drinking fountain water, add Instant Water, stir and VOILA! water!

I has the same problem in June when it rained all the time. Took about a week to get cleared up.

We got a bunch of rain again a couple weeks ago. I managed to catch it in time. I started pump 24/7 and tons of bleach when it was getting cloudy. Still took a week but I got it.

I've got a HUGE box of DE I bought at Lowe's when I only needed (1) Cup. I didn't think about adding that. I'll do that next time.

Don't add too much--1/3 to 1 cup is all you need--if your skimmer stops working, just backwash the filter and add less DE. You need to add more DE everytime you backwash. Actually, you don't need to add it, but if you want the extra filtering DE gives sand you do. I have been using DE for 2 1/2 seasons now and STILL am on the first 10 lb box. DE doesn't go bad.

My pool's now pretty much clean. The water is clear but not the crystal, crystal clear I like and usually have.

We had a lot of rain while I was away and I think that did it.

Update:

My water is nearly as clean as I like it!
FC: 8
CC: 0
TC: 8
pH: 7.3
T/A: 90
CYA: 38 (approx)
CH: Who Cares?
Temp: 78

I realize I had JUST a little too much DE in the sand this morning when I saw that at low speed the pressure was 20 psi! But after a back wash and less DE it's fine!

Nah, but I may break down next year and put in a heat pump for April, early May and September.

CarlD, that is just too funny for you! YOU are the one who told this newbie last year that 'green' is bad! You mods have a wonderful time together and I miss yall. Just like everyone else, I feel bad that PF is kinda' closed. If Ben would come back, I would support him, as would others. Thanks to all you mods for being there for us.

Yep, if it can happen to you, it can happen to anyone! ;)

Take care, Joyce

Joyce -- You are right. We mods all do have a wonderful time with this forum. Carl, Al and I have all had the opportunity to hang out together and we had a blast. We are still working on someday getting together again and managing to get Janet there with us, too!

As far as PF closing -- although we know that that may be the case one day, for the time being we are all 4 still here and very much involved. As long as we can login and help, we'll be right here. Thank you for you kind words.

I thought I was ready to close, but this last week it got hot and my carefully prepped water has clouded up. I'm back to shocking again. I hadn't run the pump for 10 days thinking the nights in the 40's had cooled the water. But, it hit 96 last Sunday and has been in the high 80's-low 90's all week.
I can't just let it go, it looked too good before it warmed up.:(
