View Full Version : Cracking walk in steps

I have a 18x38 inground vinyl pool that has a 4 foot (fiberglass?) walk in steps. My problem is that I have noticed on the 2nd step out of 4, it's begining to crack where the vertical part of the step meets the horizontal step. Walking on the steps, it feels like the other steps are supported under it, but the 2nd step isn't, hence the crack.

My question is, how would one repair this? I don't think it's losing water since they are that bad yet.... but I would like to try and nip this in the bud soon. Would it be feasible to drain to that step, then try to fiberglass over the cracks, then paint white to match.. ??? That's the best thing I can think of right now..... any suggestions ???

Thanks in advance !!!

Rock,
I've been in a similar situation with my steps for a number of years and likewise, not sure what to use for the fix. Mine have a few small cracks but a lot of black spots of something that appears to be poking through to the surface. My dilemma was I didn't want to drain all the way down because of the older liner. Got the idea to dam up the stairs last Fall and found the concept should work but over the Winter my priorities shifted and I never followed up. Check this thread. May give you some ideas.

Thanks for the link and pics Al. Weird, mine is a Foxxx Pool too, although mine was just installed about 5 years ago. I will check out the Pool Steps Specialists website and see if they have something that will work. I don't think I would have too much of a problem draining down to the level I need... but love the dam idea. I will consider that as well.

Thanks again for the reply !!!
