I just bought a new bottle of the fas-dpd powder for my 234 test kit. I purchased the number indicated in the cross reference chart in the sticky above, R-0870. My question is the powder has a different consistency and look. It is more like a powder than granules and is white unlike Ben's which had a reddish tint to it. It appears to work the same but I figured I would ask to make sure I have the right stuff.

That is what fresh DPD powder looks like. As it ages it gets a bit clumpy and turns greyish but it's still good.

On the same note. I also have the same refill and the scoop included on the refill is MUCH smaller than Ben's. At first I thought the smaller scoop may be for a smaller amount of water, but I tried both and got the same results??? Does it matter how much powder you start with? If not, I'll just use the included scoop and save powder.

You need enough to turn the water good and pink, even red. That's all. More just wastes powder and doesn't change the measurement.

Tayl says to use 2 scooops of DPD powder becasue their scoop is half the size of Ben's. The amount of powder snot THAT critical but the powder dos have some pH buffers in it so I would use the minimum amount called for, which would be one of Ben's scoops or two of the Taylor scoops.

Thanks for the info. I guess you got that info on the website or original test kit because is wasn't included with the refill. Good to know though...

It't not in the testkit either and I'm not sure if it's on the website but Taylor is very good at answering questions! (So is LaMotte for that matter.)
