View Full Version : Cleaning out pump impeller
I have a 1.5 hp Pentair Dynamo pump for my pool and wanted to clean out the housing. It has a drain plug on the bottom, as well as the basket, but I wonder if it's worth it to remove the 6 small screws/bolts that hold it together and clean it. Or will running water back thru it be sufficient? Gotta get the pool going for the kids.

Day1, if the impeller is clogged, you need to get the 'stuff' out of it. This can often be done by using a screwdriver or needle-nose pliers through the back port of the pump housing. If you can't get the stuff that way, you'll need to break the housing apart and do it that way.

Go to a hardware store and buy a pick set (in the screw driver area), they usualy have an assortment of four picks. You want to use the right angle pick or the 45 degree pick. Take the basket out then use the pick to clean out the impeller. Oh and make sure the pump is not running or on a timmer that will turn on while cleaning. Hope this helps.
