here are my results:
Ph 7.2
FC 1
CC .5
TC 1.5
Alk 60
Cal 230
CYA 40

last year I recorded this as my goals on the last column of the test kit, but I can't remember where I came up with them. Do they make sense?

fc:3
alk 100
cya 30
cal: 250-500

so, I'm thinking for my 28K gallon pool:
14 lbs of baking soda (6 lbs, re-test, then 2lbs re-test until 14)
some borax to raise the ph (how much?)
shock pool/add chlorine

does that sound right??

Your on the right track with your baking soda. An alk level anywhere between 80-125 is good. With a cya level of 40, you'll want to keep your chlorine level between 3 and 6 all the time. Shock level will be 12 - 15 which should get rid of your cc reading. Your ph is OK at 7.2, but if it goes any lower, you'll need to add some Borax to raise it. Ideal is 7.4-7.6, but anywhere between 7.2-7.8 is OK. Calcium level is usually between 200-400, but if this is a vinyl pool, you don't need to worry about that.

thanks so much for the help. Its gunite...I raised the calcium level last year from 180 to 240. Think I should bring it up a notch?

I'm not sure how my cya got so high...it was zero last year and I spent the whole season trying to get it off zero. I suppose the guys that opened our pool might have thrown some in.

I think you're probably ok with calcium at 240. As far as cya readings go, 40 is great.
