Hello,

It has been awhile since I have been on this forum , ever since I was guided to dropping Bacqucil and switching to CL a number of years ago. All has been well with the chemical issues, using cal chloride and liquid bleach and opening and closing the pool myself , etc. I live in NJ

Well...the pool is 10 years old,,,and I have a leak

I did the bucket test with everything turned off , and lost 3/8 inch in 4 hours.

What's next?

I was going to plug all accessible outlets, polaris port and skimmer and do bucket test again to eliminate them first.

Suggestions please!!!

Thank you,
Bob

At a rate like that you can forget the bucket test. That is used only for slow leaks where there is a question about evaporation or a leak. 3/8 in 4 hours is a leak. You're doing the right thing first by eliminating, or identifying the plumbing. If you do a search of this forum for "liner leak" there are a bunch of hits. Another thing to help you is to measure the leak rate precisely by using a ruler or something to reference the water level to a step, a known spot on the skimmer housing, a return jet, the bottom, or anything that is repeatable. Knowing the surface area of your pool you can figure the gallons per hour of the leak and that will give you a better idea of how difficult it will be to find using dye. You're already looking at obvious places but those should include the stair area too.
