I really hope you gyes can help but I use well water to fill up my pool but unfortunately it is quite hard at about 950ppm. Inorder to prevent scale from forming I want to add alot of muriatic acid to get the ph to 7.0 and the total alkalinity to 80ppm. Strange thing is I tested the 25000 gallon pool and found it needed alot of muriatic acid to bring it down. The reading was 300 ppm of total alkalinity and the ph was at around 8.3. So I add about three gallons of muriatic acid over a 2 week period and the ph has actually gone up. What is going on here. I haven't run the pool pump at all so there is alot of algea growing and the water does look like it has decaying stuff in it that needs to be cleaned out. How could the ph have gone up.
