Pump Leak

I have a small leak coming from the nut that sits on top of the pump between the pump and my sand filter. A small trickle of water can be seen run down the pump. Could this be the reason I am getting air in my system, because I see a spurt of small air bubbles coming out of my return periodically?

My next question is, can I get by with applying some silicone sealer to the leaking area or should I try and disassemble and repair? This looks like a tricky area to replace so silicone sounds a whole lot easier for me.

Riles, what has probably happened is that the O-ring on the 'nut' isn't proporly seated, or the union isn't tightened down enough. You probably won't need to do a replumb of the system, just turn off the pump and unscrew the union and be sure that you put it back together with the o-ring proporly in place3 and the union fully tightened. :)

If water is coming out of the leak then air cannot be getting in so that is not your source of air bubbles. Also, if the leak is on the pressure side, which is what you imply, silicone seal won't hold.

Thanks, I will try and unscrew it and take a look at the O'ring.

I'll keep my eyes open for another leak on the suction side of things.
