New re-plaster..please help!

Help please! We had our pool replastered (white) two weeks ago. The pb said he would get it adjusted slowly. We told him that we do the BBB method and that could he please keep our CYA between 30 & 40. He said he was glad that we told him because his norn was to shoot for a CYA of 80. :eek:
They have added chems three times:
1) The first dump was 4 gals of muriatic acid.
2) Don't know what he put in the second time.
3) The third time, which was Monday (4 days ago) we were out of town and he left a note that he added: 1 gal muriatic acid, 8# alkalinity plus & 2# CYA. ....BUT, he also wrote "you will need to add bleach soon".

Being unsure whether we are suppose to add the 'bleach' or they, I called and left that message. No answer back from them. So, we decided to get some bleach in there, if only a little, because it has been in the 80's this week and full of sunshine! This morn we added appx 3 CUPS of 6% bleach. Our beautiful clear-blue water turned greenish within a hour. What did we do? Trying not to panic, we got Ben's kit out and got the #'s:

although we did not have have our pool temp at the time, after one hour of pool temp gage in water, it was 62. What should we do? We feel sure that PB is not finished balancing our water, but, what do you think we should do? HELP!

Joyce, relax, all will be fine! It sounds like you have copper in the fill water, can you confirm or deny? If it's copper, or another metal, a sequestering agent will help you - I'm not the best re: metals but the 'stains and metals' area can provide some more info, I'll help as I can.
You will want to bring the CA up to ~250, but pb seems to have that in hand (BTW- you're very lucky to have a pb who is willing to do as you ask without giving you a lot of 'hastle' about the BBB and cya!!!!)

Keep adding the bleach, you don't want to have an algae problem in a freshly refinnished pool. As you have no CC, you can keep the additions low for now, but please look into the copper/ metal thing and add a sequestering agent if it exists, before taking the cl too high. I'm hoping that some of the stain experts will add to this today, as it would "SUCK" to have new plaster stained!

I wish I knew more about it, but I think I've given you some good advice for the interem :)

:) Hi Waste! Wow, we feel much better. Thank you. We do not know about our fill water. We actually filled w/ city water , but our normal fills - topping off - we do with our well water. I can take a sample of each to the pool store for metals testing? Or, should I just take a sample of the pool water? btw, can you calculate how much bleach to add to maintain a 1 to 1.5 cl? I read somewhere here to keep it low for the first month - also, the plaster will be 3 weeks old tomorrow (not 2wks old) Thanks again.

...Maybe this will help: I called our City of Columbia Water Department, and an engineer gave some info:
Copper 3.9 parts per billion
manganese 3.4 " " "
iron 11.6 " " "
sodium 8.92 ppm
potassium 2.38 ppm
magnesium 1.85 ppm
aluminum 0.11 ppm
He had more numbers, but does this confirm that it is metals? If yes, must we take action TODAY to keep from staining? or will tomorrow we okay?

Hi,
Finally got up w/pool people and they are coming tomorrow to add the chems to balance. Perhaps we were too hasty to ask for advice; however, the info gathered here lets us know what should happen! Thanks so much Waste! Will keep you posted.
