Hi,
New pool, 37x18 IG, going in as we speak. I'm currently spec'd for a 4x160, but since I am getting n intellitouch controller and live in the land of the ungodly electric bills (CA), I'm considering the straight intelliflow.
Any thoughts either way? The $400 delta seems big, until I consider it's lifespan, and the possibility of saving $$ every year for the next 10 years...
thanks

As a percent of the total cost of the pool, I doubt the $400 is significant. If I were in your shoes, I would go with the full Intelliflow. The nice feature about this pump is that it will maintain the same flow no matter what your valves settings are (e.g. pool, spa, solar, cleaner, etc). This allows you to set the pump for a very specific turnover rate and you never deviate from that. Given the size of your pool, you may even be able to set it for a 24 hour turnover, ~20 GPM, so it is on all of the time. In the summer, you can double that for 2 turnovers.

I ended up getting the 4x160. The 4x160 is actually infinitely adjustable and you have 4 speed presets like a car radio. I can configure one setting for the lowest possible rpms to get the turns I want. The easytouch controller connects via cable to the 4x160 and can switch between settings.
All that being said you really cant go wrong with the full intelliflo. That model is obviously much more sophisticated where you can just set the gpm you want and it figures the rpm speed for you.
I just figured I would calculate my turnover rate after my pool is finished and set one preset to something like 1 turn, preset 2 to 2 turns, etc and not need to adjust the speeds again.
