I have a Hayward S200 sand filter that makes noise when the pump is turned on. It sounds like there are 2-3 rocks inside the filter that proceed to bang around when water starts to flow through it. Is this something to worry about? Can I just take the filter apart and look inside and remove any foreign objects if I see them, or is there a little more too it than that? I am a new pool owner and am leary about just taking things apart.
I downloaded the manual but that didn't seem to help.
Thanks,
Jeff

Did you try to backwash your filter?

Nothing magic to taking it apart and looking but I suspect all you have are air bubbles trapped in the valve assembly. Makes a rattling noise like you describe. My valve is top mounted but it makes no difference. Mine makes the noise once in a while and eventually clears itself. Sometimes I'll just crack the multiport valve handle just a little bit with the pump running to open all ports and that helps bleed any trapped air. When I say just a little I mean it. Raise the handle too much and you run the risk of the spider gasket popping loose.
Hope this helps.
