Question: As a cheapskate I'm trying to reduce my electric bill and found that if I set my Quapure 1400 setting to 90% I only have to run my pump for 3-4 hours per day to get the correct water quality. I have a 58,000 IG pool does anyone see a problem with this logic? Is this a normal run time for a Texas Winter pool? Any thoughts is well appreciated!

Hi Terry, how're you doing! Did you get the waterfall taken care of?

The pump run time sounds good (remember what I suggested in the other post?). However, if the Quapure 1400 is your SWCG, you may want to rethink the cost savings of running it at 90%. SWCGs 'use -up' their lives the more they are 'powered' (ie the more you run one, the sooner it needs to be replaced - the cells need replacing after 'X' # of hours of run time). I'm not expressing this as well as I'd like, but perhaps someone else will put it more elequently for me . You may want to think about using bleach to up the cl, rather than the SWCG @ 90%.
(Things are a little hectic in the "wasteland" today, but wanted to give you my quick take on your ?. As always, if I can be of further help, or offer some clarification - all you need do is ask. :)

I do the same in the winter, when the water temp drops below 60, I go to 2 hours a day of pump run time with a SWG setting of 45%. This gives me about 0.5 ppm. You may not need to run the SWG at a higher % since the pool will probably require less chlorine with lower temps. Last year during our winter, I kept the chlorine between 0.5 and 1 ppm and did not have any problems but your conditions could be different.

As for SWG life, as Waste pointed out, it depends on run time per day. So,

3 hrs @ 90% = 2.7 hrs SWG run time
6 hrs @ 45% = 2.7 hrs SWG run time
9 hrs @ 30% = 2.7 hrs SWG run time

Each of these settings combinations will produce the same chlorine and have the same effect on cell life. But as I mentioned above, when water temp drops, you will need much less chlorine in the pool so even though you are reducing pump run time, you may not need to increase SWG % as much as you think or at all.
