has anyone done it? if so, how did you set up your pool to protect it.

My nephews had a lot of fun playing in the empty pool when I was painting it in 2003. Used 2-part pool epoxy paint and applied it with a paint roller. Very durable surface & pretty slick stuff.

I'd put my nephews into a large plastic bucket and they would slide from the shallow end, into the deep end. Bucket base was large enough, that it wouldn't tip over..so it was pretty safe & fun for them. :D

Playing ball inside it was also fun. Sitting in the deep end and bouncing/rolling the ball in the pool. The ball always returned back to you in the deep end.

Ah, skating here in SOCAL mean skate boarding. lol SOCAL = Southern California

We don't get much of that white and cold stuff down here...except in the mountains. haha

I figured as much when I read your post and then of course saw the pictures. I used to live in Florida in the 80's doing skateboarding and surfing, although we never had a chance to skate in a pool.

I definitely WOULD NOT allow ice skating - especially if you have a vinyl liner. When I was a kid (7-8) I had the brain storm to do just that with our little above ground vinyl liner pool. Everything went smashingly . . . until . . . I tapped the wall with the front edge of the blade of my figure skate. The vinyl was cold enough that the impact cracked the liner from the ice up to the top of the wall. My parents were NOT pleased!

Another reason not to skate is movement of the ice block. That thing weighs a bunch and if you get it rocking it could catch a return jet or the steps and do some serious damage.
