Protecting buried PVC

I'm reworking some of the pool plumbing in the backyard and I've noticed that it's buried in a fairly shallow ditch, averaging 6-8 inches deep.

Since I'm doing the work myself, I was thinking I might cover up the plumbing with a hard surface.....maybe tile? or bricks? .....something that wouldn't rust, or deteriorate.

Any suggestions on what to use? I want to roll sod out onto this area, and I just know that someone is going to decide it's a beautiful place to jam an umbrellla pole or volleyball fence into the ground, at some point in the future.

I have mine covered with sod in some areas and 24" square pavers in the area around the pump equipment. They are very shallow as they get close to the equipment so I added a little sand under the pavers to cushion them a bit.

as to the fear of someone jamming an umbrellla pole or volleyball fence into the ground, I had an issue with my sprinkler system and a tiki torch .. after patching the broken pipe , I split a piece of bigger PVC lenght ways and layed it over the sprinkler piping before covering it back up with dirt .

Thanks for the reply, Philbo. I'm trying to think what I've seen that would be perfect for this purpose. I have an area that's double-layered with PVC that I'm a little bit worried about just covering with dirt. (What a mess it would be to repair!) The PB guys put a bunch of little rocks over the original spot, and I JUST KNOW I've seen something....something that would be perfect for this. Non-rusting, non-organic, sheets of some kind of material. Pavers would be great but still have the cracks between... (My wife wants grass on top so they'd have to be buried)

Maybe I'll just put a phony tombstone above the finished grassy spot and creep out the neighbors with a "Here lies" joke epitaph..... Might also keep the self-invited swimmer syndrome down to a slow crawl. :)

How about some 1X6 TREX lumber on top of the pipes? That should last a while.

Not a bad idea, Mark. I just wish Trex wasn't so expensive. I'm going down to Home Depot today to explore plastic or rubber floor products. My wife nixed the faux tombstone idea for some reason...... :)
