I have the option of either for my pool - same cost. As of now, I've chosen the Polaris because I've heard good things from a couple of co-workers. The pool company would be more than happy for me to get the Kreepy Krauly, as they use mostly Pentair equipment.

Another of my co-workers has the Kreepy Krauly and has been very happy with it and says it only has one moving part, which is appealing. Also, becuase the rest of my equipment is Pentair, I would get a 3 year warranty versus just a 1 year with the Polaris.

I'd especially like opinions from anyone who has used, or has experience with both types - which would you recommend?

TIA

Any interest in a robotic? If so, maybe you could get a rebate and put it toward a robotic.

BTW, Sean - gunite is complete over here.

Existing patio demolition, pool layout and mark-off, excavation, rebar, stub plumbing, and gunite in seven days.

How's your project stand?

NEITHER!!!! Pony up the extra cash and get a robotic ie Blue Diamond,Tiger Shark. Lots of saved time and effort. Pay me now or pay me later...

I absolutely Hated my Kreepy Krauly...

read my (long) review on it here: Kreepy Krauly sucks & not in a good way!

others don't necessarily agree though & you can read opinions on both products on that site...

I much prefer my Dolphin Dynamic (remoted robotic cleaner)...
I hated babysitting the KK, a robotic cleaner you can just throw it in an' forget about it :D

Thanks, but I'm not interested in a robotic, or more accurately, spending the money on one. I'm interested in the two products listed, as they are my choices that are already paid for. :D There are LOTS of things I could do on this project, but I simply have to maintain some sort of budget - new house, new pool, new furniture, etc...

I don't know if I agree that it's a matter of pay me know or pay me later though. That implies that at some point I'm going to have to switch to a robotic. I can certainly understand the appeal, but there seem to be many people who have had years of good use with various types of cleaners.

They came to do the gunite yesterday eljefe, but because of all the rain the day before, they just did a flash coating - to give the gunite something to stick to and prevent any colapses while they work. They will either be back today or tomorrow to finish - providing the weather cooperates, which is not looking too good at the moment.

Sean - I have a friend who has had a Polaris 280 for 10 years and he loves it. I don't think you can go too wrong with a Polaris pressure-side cleaner.

I bought a home w/a 30000 gal. gunite free-form pool four summers ago. It has a Polaris with a dedicated pump and water line. The Polaris has some age on it so I think it's a 180 model. The performance has been excellent. The only problem we've had was with it getting stuck against my steps. I replaced the backup valve and it's never been stuck again. Had a poolfriend overhaul the innards about three years ago(I've since learned anyone can do it-kits are available online, eBay, etc.). I can't imagine another cleaner would be much better but some of the reviews in this forum make me wonder......LOL

Yeah, I've heard it both ways now. Some people love the KK and others love the Polaris. We decided to go ahead with the Polaris. I just like the idea of having a pressure side cleaner.
