All,

I need an opinion.
Our pool will be completed in about 1-2 weeks.

Right now our projected setup is ZeoBrite filtration w/ chlorine setup.
The PB said we’d be getting one year worth of chemicals.

Also in our pool package were getting a $1000.00 BBQ grill.

~~Now what I am considering doing instead is telling our PB to not get the BBQ Grill/Pit and instead get and install an AQUA rite SWG.

So what I am asking you guys is what would you choose?

A) Keep the standard setup (ZeoBrite filtration w/ chlorine) and free 1-year chemicals.

Or

B) Forget the BBQ Grill / Pit and get the AquaRite SWG instead?

Thank you for any suggestion or opinions.

Your free chemicals will probably be trichlor and cheap algaecide, so I wouldn't worry about those. They are worth just about nothing unless you can resell them.

Honestly I'd go for the SWC and save up for the BBQ next year. You'll have so much free time with the SWC, you could build your own BBQ pit.....

Is there a significant cost difference between the Zeobrite and regular sand? Can you skip the Zeobrite and get both the grill and SWC? ;)

I run a SWC and sand filter with Al and Carl's DE "filter aid" trick. Crystal clear water and absolutely no hint of algae all season long.

LoL... well I need a filteration right? so zeobrite is just the sand I'd be using if I understood correctly

So nope. cannot substitue a BBQ pit for trading in my filteration setup. lol

Can't you have them plumb for the SWG and then buy it yourself and install it? It will probably be cheaper to get on-line? We paid $1200 for ours with the pool - I hear other people getting it for closer to $800 here on the forum.

It depends on the BBQ - are they running gas line to it? It might be better to have them run the gas line, but then you install the pit yourself - you might save enough money for both.

Or you can do what DH and I did - we are looking at adding the Aqua logic system - figured it will cost $500 plus removing the child fence and installing alarms on the doors/windows. $500=10 times eating out = eating at home for the next two months.

I'd also go with the SWCG. It makes maintaining the chlorine levels soooo much easier, especially if you need to go away for a few days. I have left mine for up to 12 days and come back to a sparkling clear pool except for a few leaves on the bottom. It will save you more than enough time to pay for itself, and allow more time for grilling when you purchase that.

Is the BBQ an add-on that can easily be done after the fact, or is it intergral with the cement and landscape work and just won't be the same if you add it later? If so, I'd get the BBQ BUT spend the little bit extra to have everything set up to install a SWG. ie. electrical, timer, and piping with caps.

If the BBQ is an easy add-on, I'd get the SWG from the start too.

I am thinking I'll get something like my parents got, which is a brinkman stainless Steel w/ 3 burners. I can always build around it.

~~ I think I am gonna pull on the SWG and not get this grill.
Thanks!!

did kabobs on one of those this past weekend..awesome bbq..that being said, i'd get the SWG. the money you save on chemicals will soon pay for the bbq and allow you more leisure time to cook with the simplicity of the SWG once you get it setup. zeobrite is only about 85 dollars for 100 lb (equivalent to 200 lb of sand for filteration)..not really expensive when you consider how long it will last you.

I decided to pass on my gas grill that I was going to get b/c I decided to get a SWG ( salt water generator).

Yep I figure I don't want to do the chlorine mixing in the pool.

But its ok. Water softener feel coming out of a pool is better anyway.
....But not to worry, I am getting this grill....
Not as fancy, but what the heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NICE. I had a California sales rep that refered to me as the bald salt god. I guess that's as good as getting a raise...

Nice grill, but where do you put the wood? :D

It's definitely a matter of personal preference, but I'd get a smoke pit instead. You can spend the day enjoying the pool and slow cooking a brisket or ribs!

Sean, I do have a smoker w/ fire box (little HONDO smoker). I just wish to sometimes not mess with wood, charcoal and wonder if the fire will die out. But on bigger gatherings I will use the smoker for steaks & brisket and cooking burgers on the grill

Luvly lifestyle.

wha, wha, why of course .................. :p

I actually passed on the grill in the above pic. The area where it is colored grey is really cheap as I saw two at Lowes looks faded from sitting in the sun. Looked horrid

I did however picked up the top of the line Char-Broil Commercial grade grill. Large cooking area and very high BTU's (65000) and of couse the shell is stainless steel w/ lifetime brass burners.

I do, later plan to getting a bigger smoker.

I wanted to use the grill so bad, It did not even make it to the backyard for its 1st time cooking. This was shot in the garage today.

BTW.... it really does a great job. I love the cast iron grill for its char-broil lines it makes in the steaks.

Well, it's official...now I'm going to have to grill tomorrow. We just moved and our smoker is at the in-laws house so I'll have to go retreive it- darn you and your pictures Mike!

I switched from propane to charcoal and I will never go back!!!

I wish I knew where I could get a santa maria style grate (that raises/lowers via chain)... would love to build a SM style bbq in the back yard!
