Shocking Run pump?

When I shock my pool should I run the pump 24 hours afterwards or just long enough to disperse chemical???
Rain by the barrells has gotten me worried and I think I should shock the pool to keep it crystal clear since you guys have managed to keep it that way all summer!!!:D

I shock mine when the pump turns on for the night. it runs about 7 hours after that.

I assume you are shocking because something is not right with your water.

If so, run your pump 24/7 and maintain shock level until your water is back the way you want it. Then, let your chlorine drift down to normal maintenance and return your pump to it's normal schedule

I would run the pump until there is no need to shock. If you are worried, don't guess, test.:)

I am shocking because we have had a ton of rain lately (It added nearly 4 inches this week) and a lot of debris in the pool. My cc is at .5 or less and my residual chlorine has been 3 or better even after rains. While swimming Monday I noticed that the liner was not as squeaky clean as it has been all summer. I decided that it would be a good idea to shock just to make sure everything stays nice and sparkly. I tried a few days last week with all the rain to ramp up the chlorine to maintain a 5 or 6ppm residual but afternoon thunderstorms would not let that happen. I test my water every day.

I usually just run mine for a couple of hours after I shock it, to mix the chlorine well, then shut it off.
