We bought a house with a pool in April this year. I couldnt stand seeing the pool equipment bake in the Texas sun so I built the cover shown below. 1" PVC frame with inch and a quarter supports. The inch and a quarter slides over the one inch embeds in the cinder blocks. Theres a tee at the bottom of the 1" PVC inside the mortar filling the cinder blocks, which act to weight it down. Whole thing can either lift off or swivel up from one side.

That's a pretty cool diy rig; you might want to sell the plans on ebay

( why does your filter look like that?, is there some sort of cover on it? )

Tom, great idea and well done!
Raven, the filter looks like that due to UV breakdown of the fiberglass coating on the filter.

Yeah, its a faded glory filter! Thats why I wanted to get all of it out of this sun.

Wow
when they say "everything's bigger in Texas", guess the mean the UV as well.

we regularly get UV ratings of 7 - 9 now ( I noticed environment canada has up-ed their rating system to include 11+ now)
You're getting what...? 20 (lol)
