I have a 16 x 32 above ground pool, 12,500 gallons. I just recently converted to Chlorine from Baquacil. I'm using about 3 Liters of Bleach every day to keep my chlorine levels up. Does this sound excessive or about right? I realize every pool is different, just want to make sure I'm on the right track.
My pool is in direct sunlight all day with no solar cover and I live in Texas with 100 degree weather almost every day. My numbers from this morning are posted below.
I am holding chlorine overnight, but just by the time I get home from work they are usually down to .5 and I have to add 3 Liters to get them back up. I haven't gotten Ben's kit yet, so I'm using a Walmart Kit so I only have total Chlorine.
CL= 3
PH=7.2
TA=120
Hardness=Nothing (color didn't change)
CYA=50

I ran and compiled a Bleach Usage Survey a little while back...

Those numbers are very similar to mine AGP 100 + every day cya 50 I'm using .75 gal every other day. I have too kids in diapers (lots of organics in pool bugs leaves). I went through period of time when it seemed I using .75 gal every day and when I shocked the pool It went back to normal. It seems I had a little something growing this spring eventhough I had clear water and no CC.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'm pretty much on track, maybe usage is a little high, but my pool is in direct sunlight all day, almost 12 hours, so I can expect to use more bleach. Even putting in 3 Liters a day, I'm still only spending $40 a month. I was spending $100 to $150 month on baquacil. So, I'm really happy!!:D
BTW jenpen400, I'm also in San Antonio Texas. Actually right outside in Schertz.
At a cya of 50 you are at the low end of your chlorine chart. With such high temps, you may want to run your pool on the higher end of the chart, closer to 6ppms. You may be battling a little something in the water that you are keeping at bay with the amount of chlorine you have in the water - you may want to shock, just to be sure.

I've got a 27,000 IG in direct sunlight from 8:30 am to sunset and I'm using a large jug (about 1.3 gallons) just about every day. Our air temps have been in the upper 90s and low 100s for a couple of months now also.

Jaybird,
When you did the conversion from Baquacil did you change your sand? I have a 21k gallon pool in direct sun all day long as well and I have to add a jug of bleach every day, the 6% .75 gallon size. We found it at a Sav-A-Lot for .99 cents a jug!

I'm using 3 liters a day in my 14,000g+ pool. It gets a lot of sun though. It costs lest than $10/week, so I guess that still good!
