View Full Version : Broken float support on Polaris 180 - best repair?

The plastic extension that holds the stationary float has broken - see photo below. Inside the plastic is a stainless steel tube that appears to be an internal brace for the plastic. I'm thinking a lot of marine epoxy that encases the stainless tube and fills the break. (I can slide the plastic together to make the break just a crackline, it's opened a little in the picture for clarity.) Is there a better way to make this repair?

Thanks,

TW

IMHO, I think Marine expoxy would be a good way to go since it has the metal structual support...
if the metal wasn't there, I would guess that it wouldn't work because of the stress of the float.

Intersted in what others will suggest though, so hang on before you glue it just yet

I drilled through the plastic and stainless from the side in two places - one near the side of the upright tube and one out along the support. Then I used a couple of small stainless bolts and nuts so everything was at least bolted together. Then a lot of marine epoxy. Seems to be working okay. :D
