I have an AG 18ft by 4 ft pool. I currently have a 100 pound Columbia sand filter that I wish to upgrade and I have a 3/4 hp pump which I understand is an ok size for my pool. My question is which sand filter should I purchase, I do wish to continue to use a sand filter. I have heard that Hayward is the brand to choose but what size? I assume I should stick with a 100 pound sand filter. Thanks for any suggestions.

What's your current filter not doing that you hope a new filter will?

Not really. This one has the push-pull valve and with backwash you almost have to guess. It leaks at that valve as well and I was told that these all seem to leak. Or that was what the pool installers told me at that time. It took forever for them to get a part needed and that part wasn't the right one and they had to get another part and try again and finally it fit. I am currently doing the conversion to bleach from Baquacil so i will need to replace the sand anyhow.

Gotcha.

Just make sure you filter is sized larger than the flow rate of your pump. Other than that, I have DE so I can't comment on the different brands of sand filters but stick with a name brand like hayward, pentair or jacuzzi and you should be good, or wait for input from the sand filter folk :)
