This must be a Newbie thing. I bought a G4 off of Ebay yesterday myself!
Hope it's everything it's advertised to be.

I currently have the kreep krauly and it's "ok" kind of a pain actually. I have trees and so forth around my pool and one little twig the size of a pencil lead will stop it in its tracks. I'm getting and electric robotic type next year. They also say it can cost up to $3 per day to run the suction type cleaners due to pump demand.
I'm just not a fan of the suction cleaners. My pool also has lots of turns, seats, and steps and it gets stuck in corners. Good luck.

I have a G4. I bought it off ebay as well--it came from Florida. It was $340 (including shipping) and I sent in the $50 MIR. Saved over $175 from leslies, not counting the MIR.

It seems to do a decent job with my pool. I installed salt and then got this and then fired my pool guy. I add acid every other week or so--haven't had to vacuum it.

Fired my pool guy after several hours of reading this forum and getting tired of paying for virtually nothing. The $340 I paid for the G4 will hopefully pay for itself in about 1.5 months!! Noworries, we must have bought from the same vendor!

I just came from the local pool place chain called Pinch-a-penny and they had a bunch of G4's in the back of the shop
I was like What the FUDGE Not a good sign.
so i asked the kid working on them wasup with all these units are they that bad
he said no they after awhile get a bad diafram and needs replacing thats all other than that they dont come in for anything so if you get one remeber that it will go bad also in time
wow i was like good to know since i just bought one
Well just wanted to post my findings:cool:

How can a person tell if the diaphram is bad?

I bought a G4 at the beginning of summer and it worked great, climbed the walls and everything! Now, when i plug it in it loses power and quits operating.
Does this sound like a diaphram problem?

Thanks for any help!

Did you store it outside the water for a while? If so it might have dried out and cracked? I dunno. I just got mine. I'm considering just leaving it in the pool unless we're having a party. Is it ok to leave them in all winter in southern california?

I received my G4 Thursday!
Here's what I've learned so far:
It works real good-if it runs over it, it sucks it up!
It loves the deep end!
With the hose weight 1 meter from the head, it works well in the deep end but not in the shallow end.
With the hose weight off, it works well in the shallow end, but not in the deep end.
I need more hose to run it from the skimmer in the shallow end and more hose is expensive.
I cannot run both skimmers and the bottom suction with the G4 running from either skimmer.
If I want 100% clean, I have to touch up with the manual vac a little.

I bought mine from Ebay used it once and sold it back on Ebay. Here are the three reasons I didn't like about the G4:
1) the constant vibration on the suction side. Will this vibration cause a leak on a pipe fitting?
2) The warranty notes caution about using it on a vinlyn liner. Over time the print could wear off or tear if liner is old
3) I have two fiberglass steps that lead down into my pool and the cleaner doesn't clean the steps, so I have to still take out the pole and do the steps manually.

I own the Polaris 150, which I think by specs is very compariable to the G4. I have yet to try it, but will let you guys know what I think.

BKNY, Now that you've run it for a few weeks, what are your thoughts on the G4?

I leave mine in 24-7. It doesn't get as much suction as it should, because I need to somehow restrict my skimmer and haven't done it yet. I occasionally brush a little algae from a few shady spots but other then that--pool is always clean!

This sounds basically like my Polaris 150 (new version) I think the G4 and the 150 are the same, but diffent names and price tag.
