hi
i'm working on getting my CYA of 100 down to 50
(i cut pool water with bottled water to get an approximate accurate reading)
in the meantime
i've been keeping chlorine at 25ppm as per ben's chart since aug 2nd.
(i'm keeping it at shock level because i'm still losing about 10ppm chlorine/day)

my concern is whether that level of chlorine will
hurt and/or bleach out my liner ?

i figure the CYA fix will be finished around aug 8-9.

2nd issue:
i'm deciding whether to keep the shock level up over the next
several days while i get the cya adjusted (by drain, refill), or just let it
drop and fix it all up once the CYA is down to 50.

thanks in advance.

Your liner should be okay as long as your shock level drops along with your CYA level--once your CYA level gets below 90 I would let the shock level drop to 20, etc.

If your CYA adjustment is to be done by Wed or Thursday, I think I'd just let the Cl drift down, get your CYA to where you want it, and then shock--you would use less chlorine that way.

thanks janet.
just to be sure i understand, when you wrote
>>I think I'd just let the Cl drift down,
you mean down below the shock point - assuming i
really am done with my CYA lowering by thursday.

followup question:
does this mean it is safe for the liner to keep chlorine
as per ben's chart for high CYA ?
so if i just get to the 60-90 CYA range
i could keep my chlorine at 10ppm
and my liner is OK ?

thanks
