Water is finally looking like it was last year , yaaaaaaaaaaaa !

The pool looked great but every time I back washed the sight glass turned green , not good . Rope on my weight jugs were getting a slight green tinge etc , not good . Water checks were good . I first changed the sand in my filter , I had this spring put alot of junk off the bottom in there by not vac to waste . Two days later I backed washed to more green in sight glass :( , NOT GOOD again . Was telling my daughter all about my troubles and she asked if I ever put the bleach in the skimmer box ? I said NO , I didn't think you're suppose to do that . Later as I got madder , I went ahead and added that days bleach to it :) all 3 quarts slowly in the skimmer box . Filters been on 24/7 since having more problems . Next night , guess what :) NO GREEN . Been three days now and backwashed again this morning and NO GREEN again :) . Also the very next day after adding that bleach to skimmer the ropes etc had lost their slight green tinge etc .

One thing that I should add , I never gave the pool enough time to get the CC to 0 as my Daughter and Granddaughter are here from Norway for only 2 weeks and it seemed that every time I was seeing green it was toward the weekend and we all wanter to swim . So if I had done it the correct way I think it would have not shown up again . I did bleach shock to 23.5 for about 29 hours , no green but CC still was 0.5 .

Anyone else ever done this ? As a new member to forum I have not read about it yet .

Also as it looks like I really have control of the pool again so I put the filter on timer again .

I usually add clorine at around 5 pm or so any ideas to a good time for on and off ? I am useing 11am to 7pm now with a hour in the middle of night at 3am to 4am . Would like to know better way if there is any .

Thanks again for this BB board , my pool costs are so much less now and I don't feel like taking a AXE to the pool anymore , hehe . That's no joke btw .

cheers

It is usually recommended that you keep the shock levels until you can keep chlorine overnight - CC level means that the chlorine is still fighting something that you cannot see. This means that by prematurely lowering the chlorine level - you could still end up with an algae bloom.
