Hello all! I just purchased a Pool Rover for my AG pool and can't wait to get home to try it out. Any other Pool Rover owners out there? I would like to know what you think of it and if you have had any problems that I might need to be aware of.

I have a Pool Rover Plus for my in-ground pool (2 summers). I really loved it when it was working but it just broke for the third time so I am replacing it with a suction side cleaner. If you live by a service center it would not be so bad when they break but having to send a Rover back to NJ every time they break gets expensive. I think an electrical surge may have killed my transformer this time; my mistake for not unplugging it. Good luck with your Rover, I think you will love it unless it stops working and you have to send it back.

Hey there Kathy! Sorry to hear that your robot broke :( Hopefully you will have better luck with your new cleaner. Well, so far so good with mine. I have used it 3 times now and can't believe the stuff it picks up! This sucker is awesome!! I bought it because I was sick of my Barracuda having a love affair with my pool steps :p ! So far the Rover is working beyond my expectations *fingers crossed* and I love that I don't have to hook up any hoses. What kind of side suction cleaner are you getting?

We just recieved the pool rover and I'm not to sure if it's going to work out or not. It ran 2 hrs in the pool and there was still alot of dirt at the bottom of the pool. I ran it again and it was much cleaner. I'll try it once more to see what happens. Any advice for fine tuning?

Mohawk, how big is your pool? If your pool is really big, it might take more than 2 hrs. to clean. Are you using the "fine" bag or the "mesh" bag? Are you giving it enough time to reach the other side of the pool before it reverses? Do you have the pin all the way down in the hole? Those are the only things I can think of that might make a difference. Let me know how it goes.

The pool is a little over 20,000 gallons and I sure it's the fine mesh bag.

Mohawk, my pool is 33' round and 28,000 gallons. The Rover cleaned it perfectly in 2 hours, but maybe my pool wasn't as dirty as yours. I would give it a couple more tries before I gave up on it.

Our pool has been in for about 1 month and we had to lower the soil around it to meet the 4 ft. city law. Needless to say, I think the dirt that surrounds it is kicked up by the wind and lands in the pool. We don't want to sod until the inspector gives the ok. It may be a while until then-I'll give the Rover a few more tries before making a decision.

Hopefully it will work out for you. Before I got the Rover I was using a Barracuda and was not happy to say the least. Hubby was upset that I spent so much money on a vacuum but he knows that if I ain't happy then ain't no one happy!! (Needless to say, it has been quite nice lately at the ranch :)!)

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Pool Rover and the Pool Rover Plus?

The Pool Rover Plus is for inground pools.

The Plus also redirects some of the water that goes through the pump back down the sides to the bottom of the Rover. This is supposed to jet clean the pool floor, it helps to lift sand and grit so it gets picked up better by the Rover. Plus, the Plus will climb out of a deep end and is capable of climbing the inclined walls of a vinyl pool (but not straight up the sides).
I've had my Rover Plus for about 3 months of use. So far I like it. The cord gets tangled (especially if I run it twice), but it definitely picks up blown in dirt and LOTS of hair. I bought the Rover over an Aquabot type of cleaner because of occasional complaints from folks about the "scrubbing" type of cleaners wearing the liner.
So, my only real complaint is self inflicted - the Rover Plus doesn't really "scrub" the bottom of the pool, so sometimes the bottom feels a little slick. In a vinyl IG like mine, it also leaves a small pile of dirt in one of the corners in the deep end (always the same corner too, not sure why). I have only used the fine bag so far and it really picks up fine dirt and sand (our pool is new so we are still working on completing the landscaping so we get a lot of blown in dirt).

Thanks for the info on the Plus. I called the 800 number listed on the instructions and they said to wash the bag because of the density of the fabric. I'm not sure if that will help with the suction of the machine, but I'll give it a try. The directions say when the Rover makes its first move across the pool it will be in a straight line. Mine never goes in a straight line. Does anyone else have a Rover that does this? Thanks for the info. Denise:)

I only wash my filter bag occasionally. Mainly I use the method recommended by CarlD (I believe). Fill a bucket (I use a 3 gallon paint bucket from HD). Turn the filter inside out. Rinse repeatedly. Toss water and refill. Rinse and wring filter. Let air dry inside out. Works great.
My Rover plus does go straight first, then curves, then straight/curve and so on. In one direction, it should go straight, in the other, it should curve. It sounds like you may not be putting the pin in the front (it should be moved from side to side every run or so to even out twists in the cord).

The pin is in the position the manufacturer placed it. It's set in the hole closest to the middle of the unit. It curves on almost every pass. I'll have to call the company again and see if they suggest something else. I had it clean twice today and I still have alot of dirt around the outer most edge of the pool.

Sorry, this is an old post but I just bought the Pool Rover Junior at Costco and was doing a search on this forum.
Does anyone know if the Pool Rover works less efficiently in cold water? My pool temp is around 40 degrees and it's been in the pool twice (4 hours total). We still have lots of dirt in the pool. I'm wondering if maybe it's because the water is so cold and that the dirt is frozen in the water. We did take our pole and kicked up the dirt a little.
We would heat up the pool, but our heater is on the whack. We have a repair guy coming out tomorrow. Yikes!!
