View Full Version : Tile Rises 2" Above Beam

Okay, another question. I have replaced my waterline tile and the top of the tile rises about 1-2" above the front of the beam (closest to the water). The beam edge falls towards the pool, so it isn't as big a difference at the back edge of the beam (the part towards the yard). So what I have started doing is laying mortar on top of the beam to meet the top of the tile. My theory is then when I lay the coping stones, the mortar will only have to be approx 1/2 an inch thick. The height of the skimmers requires this as they are fairly high since their used to be a 4" thick cantilever deck (removed it late spring).

So, any reason this process wont work?

I am on my way to the store for more mortar and admix...

Thanks,

This is known as your mortar bed and this is exactly how it works.
