Ok within two hours of emptying my skimmer basket it was full again with wasps as was the pump basket. The pump was sucking air. I need to find a floating skimmer with a large leaf canister. I’ve looked at the Aladdin No-Niche Skimmer I wonder if I could pull out the basket and plumb a leaf canister in line? I would love to try the Dragonfly skimmer http://usaink.com/dragonfly/ but 300.00 plus buy a canister? I literally have to turn the pump off to go to the store. Forget about a weekend out of town. BTW they don’t sting they are a beneficial parasitic wasp that lays its eggs in beetle larva. And even if I could get rid of wasps I have similar problems with leaves the other six months of the year.
thanks again

What about mounting a leaf rake in the water before the skimmer, I saw a picture of that someplace before. I think on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-SKIMZIT-AUTOMATIC-ALL-SWIMMING-POOL-SKIMMER_W0QQitemZ220010314952QQihZ012QQcategoryZ66 782QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I think the idea is that you could rig it up before the skimmer, I would not do it in front of it, if it clogs up too much then it could stop the water from going in and burn up the pump.

Yes basically the same problem I have now. The quantity of critters I have now would stop the flow through the leaf rake and then divert them to the skimmer it would buy some time though. I never know when they will hit. I checked the skimmer at noon and had none two hours later I had both the skimmer and the pump basket full. I have to go check it again it will be the third time to empty the basket at least I have the skimmer sock on so I don't have to empty the pump basket. At least I know with all the great folks here we will find a solution.

I wonder if I could plumb a leaf canister in after the skimmer and just remove the skimmer basket when conditions are bad? Any thoughs?
thanks again

We have a huge problem with flying ants, bees, wasps and hornets of late because there is a drought so the pool is the only water around. I could easily empty that FULL skimmer out once every 2 hrs if we did not do something about it. We have decided to keep the solar blanket on until use each time. We still get a LOT, but much less when there is not a big swath of open water.

I've noticed several questions regarding the pool skim. I have not been on the forum much lately as we have been enjoying the pool. We are currently in somewhat of a drought here in south Texas and the leaves are beginning a premature falling from the trees. The basket on the pooskim is a very fine mesh and I have found it does an excellent job of picking up the smallest silt and debris. I'm guessing the bag is about two feet long and 6-8 inches wide. At our current rate of dying leaves I have to empty it about every couple of days because it is packed full. When we are getting our normal amount of rain fall it only needs to be emptied about once per week. It's a very simple precedure to empty the bag and takes all of about 1 minute.
It's amazing to watch how fast it can clear and clean the pool surface water. Because of the intense heat here this year we have been primarly using the pool in the evenings and at night. I usually fire up the pump on high speed about 1 hour ahead of when we plan to swim and let the pool skim go to work.
One of the best investments I've made.

This looks like something I may purchase.
I was wondering- do you have any other type pool cleaner on your pool?
