Northstar strainer cover

I can't get my Hayward Northstar strainer cover off. Is there some trick to it?

Mine is difficult (stuck) at times also. I keep the gasket greased and that seems to help a little. It is alot harder to remove than my old pump was. Not much help!

Try loosening the cover with the pump running. The suction of the pump should pull the lid down just enough to allow the ring to move.
