National electric code

I shopped at several pool stores in ocean county NJ. I decided on the pool store, I wanted to do the pool next year march or april but sign the contract now to lock in the price. The pb talked about changes to the National electric code (NEC), something about electrical grids around the pool pertaining to stray voltage. He said it could pass before November of 2006, this would increase the price of the pool by approx 1500-3000k. I didn't want to have it done this summer because I still have two trees to cut down and sprinkler lines to re route. Ignoring code changes, I think the best time to build a pool is in the fall, so you may want to start the process soon anyway, maybe end of August. The builders have less work and can focus more on your pool plus you can be assured it will be complete by next spring even with delays.

The new NEC is going to have some more stringent requirements for pools, however you have to remember that the NEC is not a law in itself. Local and state governments can choose to adopt the code or not, and it is often quite awhile before it is in force.

I'm also in Ocean County (Seaside Park) and I contracted Oceam Pools, but they went out of business before they finished the pool. It was about 80% completed, so I sub-out the remaining work (under my attorney advice). My attorney advised me not to use Dover pools, since they had many filed complaints against them.

I agree 100% with the earlier poster, fall is the best time to build. We did ours in October. They filled it and closed it. Then in the early spring after the ground had fully settled over the winter they poured all the concrete decking and then opened the pool - it all went perfectly.

I have heard many complaints about dover pools. I am deciding between poolside pools and nicholas pools.

sean im also from NJ,Howell...i checked out nicholas,kinney,offshore,pooltown and holiday...after speaking with past customers and checking out all complaints with the BBB the clear choice for me was nicholas pools..

Yes I did check the BBB. I have two neighbors with pools built by poolside and they were very happy. I liked nicholas pools but they were priced higher for a smaller pool and were not willing to negotiate price on many items. Nicholas was giving us a 16*32 kidney while poolside 16*36 oasis (which is a kidney with a bump in it). I don't think you could go wrong with either one.
