Just a thought.

Every so often I have to perform the Asorbic Acid treatment for iron I noticed before my last treatment my phosporous levels were way to high 1000 plus. Now I know that they are only a consideration if the nitrates levels are too high but why get there we when one does not have. I have added metal out products over the last few months to control the iron. Many of these contain phosporous.

A few minutes ago did a test on the 4-in-1 SeaKlear’s Blue Stuff that also gets rid of metals; no indication of phosphorous whatsoever.

I think this is what I am going to use in future instead of metal out. It is, if I am not mistaken, primarily the product of ground up seafood shells,. Yes, I am going GREEN.

As the iron can also come from iron creating bacteria this might help stop it growing.

It would also allow the drain water to be legal, as many codes require the water be phosphorous free, it does not change chemistry, and 18 oz for 10,000 gals is a triple dose making it far cheaper than metal out products.

Please let me know your thoughts especially Chem Geek if you read this.

Most sequesterants are based on derivatives of phosphonic acid. These can break down into orhtophosphates in the pool and cause hight phosphate levels. Be aware also that many municipalities use these same phosphonic acid derivatives in municipal water treatment!
There are some metal sequestering products based on EDTA (NaturalChemistry's Metal Free is one) that do NOT contribute to phosphates in the pool but in my own experience they are not quite as effective or long lasting and DO require regular maintenance doses.
Chitosan based clarifiers do not acutally seqester metals. They will help removed suspeded metal particles that have already precipitated out of the water but will do nothing to seqester metal ions in the water.

Thank you for the reply.

Well there goes that idea, no more GREEN for me back to good old US chemicals.
