Ok, I'd like to hear from some of you experienced pool owners. When the installer put up my pool (18'AGP), he pointed the return eyeball all the way to the left, told me that would be best for circulation and skimming. To is credit, It makes everything go around the wall and does seem to do a great job of skimming the water. However, it does constantly ripple the top of the water.
The sunsolar liquid solar fish recommends pointing the return jet down-wards, and so does my automatic pool vac for best results. I think the idea with the solar fish is that it doesn't disturb the water, and is more efficient with the chemical it releases, and the vac seems to get more coverage area with the jet downwards. I'm thinking that maybe without the obvious ripples that evaporation would be reduced.

So, I'm now wondering what's the best position ?

thanks

Sorry I can't say whats the best, only that I keep mine pointed down and to the left. In my pool, 15x30x48 It keeps the water circulating so I get good skimmer action and also helps move the stuff on the bottom into one central location so it's easier to scoop out with a rake (pool type) before I vacuum.
I still clean the old fashion way, Manually.
Hope this helps.

That is also what I do, but I will also point it at the surface to aerate the water when I want to lower the Alk. I have also read here that if you have problems with items ending up in the skimmer alot, you can point it the other way and divert them around it. Which would also divert the debris around it though.

I aim mine slightly upward when there is a bunch of debris floating that I want to get in the skimmer, but whenever I add bleach, I aim it more downward.
