I have an old Hayward EC45 DE filter on my pool. I was just given a less-than-perfect EC40 for parts. Looking at the two, the main basin appears to be the only difference -- the EC40 is about 6 inches shorter than the EC45. All other parts appear to be identical.

Since it is smaller, it would look nicer if I swapped over to the EC40 basin, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something? Seems it uses the same amount of DE, has the same number & size tubes, etc, so the flow rates and capacity and such should all be the same.

Any thoughts?

You should look them both up on the Hayward website. They have schematics for all their equipment there and the specs for them as well.
I have an EC-65. The difference between it and say an EC-75 is the flow rate and filter size. The 75 takes a pound more DE medium and is designed for a larger pool.

I went to Hayward first. They only list the 40 and 50, and then the 65 and 75. No 45 anywhere.
