HEY EVERYONE, WE ARE PLANNING ON GETTING A POOL AND HAVE GOTTEN TWO BIDS SO FAR. ONE WAS FOR A CONCRETE POOL FROM BLUE HAVEN AND THE BID CAME IN AROUND $50k. THE SECOND CAME IN AROUND $33K BUT IT WAS FOR A HYBRID POOL CALLED THE HAWAIIAN ISLE DELUXE, FIBERGLASS SIDES AND A CONCRETE BOTTOM. HAS ANYONE HEARD OF THESE AND ARE THEY A GOOD QUALITY POOL? EASY TO CARE FOR?

IN ADDITION WE ARE ASKING THE POOL CONTRACTOR TO INSTALL SITTING LEDGES APPROXIMATELY 18 INCHES UNDER THE WATERLINE AROUND THE POOL IN CERTAIN AREAS. HE SAID HE WOULD MAKE THESE OF CONCRETE AND ATTACH THEM TO THE FIBERGLASS SIDES. HOW WILL HE DO THAT? ARE WE ASKING FOR LEAKAGE PROBLEMS?

ANY INSIGHT YOU CAN PROVIDE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!! ALSO, HE IS ASKING FOR 1/2 UP FRONT WHICH I THINK IS TOO MUCH. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

ANYONE KNOW OF A REPUTABLE AND REASONABLE POOL CONTRACTOR IN THE ST. LOUIS MISSOURI AREA??

THANK YOU ALL!!!

Hi.
We are in the Topeka area. I hope someone chimes in on your thread. The Hybrid pool sounds very interesting!

Why do you have to yell?

One of our local pool builders does that type. http://www.classicpoolsusa.com/pages/constructionpage.html

A friend of a friend just had theirs completed by Classic. I haven't checked it out yet, but I know they don't have any problems so far (installed about 2 months ago).

Cheers

Aronquest....You probably don't realize this but when you type in all caps in a forum like this it is taken as yelling. I made the same mistake myself when I first started posting to forums. It's just a lot easier to read when not in Caps. :D

Good luck in your pool building and definitely take a look at the site re: Blue Haven...pretty eye-opening

I have one of those so called Hybrid Pools. Mine was built in 1978, I believe. It has the fiberglass walls for 3' all the way around and then concrete for the bottom in the shallow end and walls and bottom of the deep end. I don't have any complaints. I've only lived here for two years but it seems to be fine. I have noticed some hairline cracks in the fiberglass walls in some spots. Not sure if that will be a problem or not. Doesn't seem to be now.

Sorry all, I did not know that caps was yelling, I thought it might be easier to read in caps. Thanks for the info everyone. We will not be using Blue Haven due to their HIGH (yes, that was yelling!) price and their bad reviews.

I did get another quote today for a vinyl liner pool. This guy said that it is the best made except for gunite. Not sure whether to believe him or not. The guy with the hybrid pool is clearly the cheapest but cheapest isn't always best so if anyone knows of a reputable pool builder in the St. Louis area please let me know and we will give them a call.

Thanks again!

Pooltron has been in business over 30 year building gunite pools. I can recommend them as they did ours.

Try this link for another company that does the hybrid:

I am not sure who if anyone in St. Louis builds these.
