Wow,
I checked out that website..that is one serious grill!
Now, a stupid question......what causes the heat......do you use charcoal or wood or what?

Very nice. Ya don't see those at your local home Depot!

Congrats!

Very nice cooker Lee! congrats!!!!!!

I've been looking at either the Komodo or the GreenEgg for a while now, but that will have to wait a bit.

Have you visited the bbqsource-forums (http://www.bbqsource-forums.com/invboard/index.php?act=idx)?

Wow! What a small internet community we all play in. Just yesterday after finally having enoiugh of the tiles falling off my Kamado I found the Komodo website. I am in communication with Dennis to have one delivered to me. Then as I search the new posts I come across your post. Amazing.

Anyway, how do you like it? It looks awesome and extremely well built/engineered in comparison to the Kamado. How long did it take to get and what was the final price?
Thanks,
Joe

Frank D.

Hardwood lump charcoal and you can also burn wood in it too... Although there is a propane/gas option but I'm a purist so I pretty much stick to good quality lump (cheaper than propane too).

I used to have a Kamado #7. It was a great cooker and I didn't have the problems with it a lot of folks have had (cracking, tiles falling off, damper rusting shut...).

The build quality on my KomodoKamado is night and day better than the #7. The fit/finish is just awesome and temperature control is much easier than the #7 (basically a function of fit/finish). Does it "cook" the food better? I would say "yes" but only because better/easier temperature control = better food. The quality though... it's AMAZING!

It took 1 year for me to get this cooker (lead times these days are 6~8 weeks I understand). I first contacted Dennis (KomodoKamado) late last summer and put an order in for a cooker that was in the design stages still, worked with Dennis over that time and suggested improvements to the design, and then further waited until he got the laser tooling + presses in place for the stainless steel.

I won't say what I paid for the cooker since I put the order in 2005 and got last years pricing. His cookers start at ~$1000 and go to $2K for the OTB Supreme (the Cadillac) and you have to plan ~2-300 for freight. Given the cost of some high end propane grills, I think this is a far better purchase. It cooks better and is much more attractive than any of the DCS, Kalamazoo, Frontgate... high end propane grills. One can do ribs, pulled pork and brisket on a $5000 DCS grill... but they just won't taste very good.

Sounds great. I am planning to get the OTB 22" supreme so we'll see what Dennis has to say. I like the fact that the quality is clearly superior and the customer service is apparently just as impressive.
Thanks,
Joe

PS can you post some pictures of the entire unit with a front, back and side view?
