Hi All,
My sand filter is rated at 60gpm while my new pump will flow 70gpm. Is that OK or will I have problems? I am guessing I should be OK but it's just a guess.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi, Joe,
Surprised no one else has responded....generally, the filter gpm should be more than the pump gpm. I doubt you'll have any problems but if you wanted to "match" them a little better, you could restrict the flow a little.
That's best done by throttling down one of your shut-off valves on the return side. Filter psi will go up but your gpm will go down and you'll use a little less electricity. (How am I doin', Al?) (inside joke)
You could then roughly calculate your actual flow by using mas985's simplified TDH calc.....filter psi * 3.2 and use the pump curve to calc your flow. If I have conveyed that info somewhat obscurely, post back and I'll try to say it a little better.

Where can I find the pump chart?
Thanks

Hi, Steve,
If you don't find it on the pump's documentation, Some manufacturers will post it on their website. If still no luck, my next step would be to call tech support and ask for a copy.
As a last resort, you could probably get pretty close with a pump curve from another manufacturer if the specs were pretty close to yours.

OK that sounds great. I will eventually upgrade to a DE filter that can handle 96gpm but funds are a bit tight right now. Between the Dolphin and Poolbuster my wife is tiring of my pool spending habits :) so I'll have to take it slow.
Thanks,
Joe
