So if the desired amount of FC (free chlorine) is 3ppm, and when you test your FC is less than that, does that mean you should add the correct amout of bleach to bring it back to 3ppm ?

For example lets say you had the following:

TC = 3
FC = 2
CC =1

This would suggest that the clorine is busy fighting something as the CC =1. In this case would you add enough bleach to bring the FC back to 3, thereby giving a TC of 4 ? or would you super clorinate, as you know the chlorine is currently fighting something ?

Thanks

You would superchlorinate to complete the fight--but to what level, and what level you should keep your TC at, depends on your CYA level. See Ben's best guess chart at the top of this forum.

If your numbers are as you state and you have a CC of 1, then you should bring your FC up to SHOCK levels (depending on your CYA level...see Ben's Best Buess Chart - http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?t=365 ) to get rid of the CC.

But your math is correct. TC=FC+CC You don't want your CC to get to 1 or higher. If it does then bring your FC up to "shock" levels, which should get rid of the CC.
