As I was cleaning my pool over the weekend, I came up with a brilliant idea. Why not create a weight that would keep the skimmer basket in place when the pump is not running?

Well, someone stole my idea (http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6893557.html) in May of last year.

Anyway, the holder of that patent hasn't brought the product to market as near as I can tell, and I am really desperate to keep my skimmer basket in place while the pump is not running. What kinds of things have worked for you folks here in the forums?

It's cheaper and easier to me to just use a broken up brick. I get tons from houses I clean pools for that has contruction going on. Also, there is one brand of simmer basket out there that has a weight already mounted to it. I can't recall it but I seem them every once and a while.

I just use a couple of my sons large marbles. It keeps the basket with the skimmer socks down just fine.:)

I just use a small rock I found in the garden. Washed it off and put it in. Works great and it was free.

There was another thread on this awhile back and 'a rock' was the most popular solution with the caveat to make sure the rock was big enough so it couldn't accidentally fall through the skimmer hole to the pump.

Oh well. I started using a nice smooth river rock. My little girl just loves holding it while we clean the skimmer basket together. The wife doesn't really think our little girl needs to get to comfortable around the June bugs though. Lots of laughs when our little girl carries a few over to mommy. See, not all the fun is inside the pool.
