30,000 gallon Gunite IG pool - probably about 25 years old and I have no idea when it was last refinished. I got it with the house two years ago.

Last year we used Bacquacil. We switched back to chlorine this year and we've had quite a battle until I found this site and reclaimed my pool following the BBB instructions. I just got my test kit and here are the numbers:

FC - 3.5
CC - 1.5
TC - 5.0
pH - 7.2
Alk - 170
Cal - 510
Cya - 30
Temp - 84

I don't know what the Calcium number should be. Is this low?

The water is crystal clear and sparkling! However there are a lot of yellowish stains on the sides and bottoms of the pool. The gunite at these stains feels pitted or rough. I'm not sure what these are but got much worse last year when on Bacquacil. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!
:)

With a CC of 1.5, I'd definitely shock the pool. Your calcium is a little high (200-400 is recommended), so I wouldn't use cal-hypo to shock or chorinate because you could soon start having cloudy water problems. Otherwise, your numbers look great!

How much bleach do you think I should use for 'shock'? Should I take it to 15 ppm again? What should the CC be?

Thanks for responding!

Each quart of 6% bleach will raise your cl level by 2 ppm. Yes to shocking it back to 15. You want your CC level to be 0.
