View Full Version : Just wait or add something?

My numbers are all "within range" but I have a cloudy pool, there is lots of minute particles floating around, I am reisiting the urge to add a floc or a clafiier for obvious reasons, but I am wondering if I need to just let the filter do its job and wait a few days for it to clear up or can I do something that will jump start it? I am willing to just wait a few days, or add something that won't mess up all my numbers. This is the first time in several weeks all my numbers have been within range, I have been vaccuming and backwashing, I added 7 bags of shock last weekend( before I found this site) and have lots of oxidation( I guess) floating around.
I am perfectly ok with letting it go on its own, do you think I could get a skimmer sock and it would help? Or add some DE to the sand filter?? Just want my clear water back!!

Mom, A skimmer sock and/or DE in your sand filter certainly won't hurt anything and may well help.
I think you'll get more meanigful responses if you post your actual chemisty numbers instead of "in range".
In the meantime, here's an article by Ben on reasons for cloudy water: http://www.poolsolutions.com/gd/cloudy.html.
Be patient and let the pump run. I'd add DE/sock also and next time you add chlorine, just use bleach. Bags of shock you're using adds calcium and can increase cloudiness.

I am so DONE with the bags of shock, but I just need to get the "remnants" of the last bags I added over the weekend... I am running the pump 24/7 and I am going to get a sock and try it, it def won't hurt anything will it?

The sock won't hurt anything. Nor will the DE unless there's a problem with your sand filter (e.g. channeling in the sand that will let the DE through; something that you probably can't rule out at this point).
