I am definitely going to switch over to either PoolPilot or Aqualogic and have read all the posts discussing the differences between the two. My issue is that I really would like to consolidate my pump and booster pump into a single timer w/ freeze protection.

I know the Aqualogic provides this feature even in their base product and it seems if I go with the Pool Pilot I would still need to purchase a separate Intermatic timer for this functionality.

I guess my real question is since I really am not interested in other automation features (lights, waterfall, valves, etc.) should I still consider the Aqualogic or are the bells and whistles in the Pool Pilot worth paying slightly more for when I add an external timer? I really like the auto-temp adjust, by-pass manifold and salt reading calibration on the Pool Pilot but just trying to justify the additional cost of something that is built into the AquaLogic.

I am also self installing but don't think either way will be much different since I will have to redo all plumbing and electrical anyway.

Thanks for the help.

There is no need for an external timer with the Pool Pilot. It is incorporated with the unit. There are certain "bells and whistles" IMHO that I like with the Pool Pilot that are not on the Aqualogic. Just my preference. I will let Poolsean give you more information in this regard.

Thanks for the input.

My concern with the PoolPilot timer is two fold.

Does it have enough capacity (amps) to control both the filter pump and booster pump and secondly can I control them separately.

Depending on how much debris is in the pool my Polaris can take anywhere from 2-4 hours to pretty much have it spot clean and if the PoolPilot needs to run 8-10 hours for a summer day I hate having to manually turn the Polaris on and off which is what I currently do now.

Thanks ..

I had narrowed my choices down to the Pool Pilot Digital and the Aqualogic PS-8 when my pool was built. I opted for the automation and am happy that I did since I also have a spa, water features, and lighting in the pool, spa, and fiber optics in the water features, a heat pump, plus I have automation for a pressure side cleaner and solar once I save up enough to add them on. I have been more than happy with the chlorine generation feature of the Aqualogic. I will say that if I had not gone that route I would have chosen the Pool Pilot. It does have some nice features such as the auto temp compensation..but since I test my FC on a regular basis it is very easy to adjust my output on the Aqualogic using the remote in my house! I also like the freeze protection feature of the Aqualogic!

soccerdude,

The Pool Pilot does not currently allow you to run the boost pump on a separate time cycle and you will need a separate time clock to operate the Polaris. The internal relay is rated for 220 volts and up to 25 amps. Certainly sufficient to run both pumps at the same time, but again, your intention is not to run the booster pump for 8 - 10 hrs/day. Understandable.

However, if you have some time...hmmmm, imagine, a control box with a salt system and two independent relays. I LOVE "What if's..."
(but remember, you didn't hear that from me)

Then again...the Aqualogic has 4,8 or 16 relays depending on the model.

Then again...the Aqualogic has 4,8 or 16 relays depending on the model plus either 4 or 8 actuator valve hookups to automate the valves. That's the main reason I chose the Aqualogic over the PoolPilot Digital.
